The Cancer Genetics and Genomics Laboratory (CGL) is implementing a rapid Idylla™ BRAF Mutation Test workflow for Anaplastic Thyroid Carcinoma (ATC), a rare, aggressive cancer with median survival of only 4 to 5 months if left untreated. The ROAR trial showed that patients with BRAF V600-mutant disease (20–50% of ATC cases) respond well to dabrafenib/trametinib, with a 56% response rate and an overall median survival of 14.5 months. These findings highlight the importance of rapid mutation detection.
Unlike next-generation sequencing (NGS) which has an approximate turnaround time of two weeks, the Idylla™ BRAF Mutation Test can detect BRAF V600 variants within days. Patients with positive results can begin treatment immediately. For negative/failed results, testing will be reflexed onto the Focus NGS Panel to assess for other actionable drivers, including RET or NTRK alterations.
